This is a purple spiny oyster necklace with a harpa shell pendant. The necklace is about 19" long with a toggle clasp. The pendant is about from the top of the bale 2 3/4" x 1 3/4".
Spiny oyster or spondylus which is molluscs with a spiny shell found in colors of orange, red and purple. It is no relation to an oyster. It is found in different areas as well as in the Gulf of California Mexico. The shells have spines and are harvested for both meat and shells which are used in jewelry.
Harpa shell is from a sea snail and is a gatropod mollusk. It is found in the Indian Ocean, Sea Sea and in the Western Pacific. The shells have beautiful color patterns and amazing shell shape.
