This is a onyx necklace with a heart pendant and lampwork. The necklace is about 18" long. The necklace has a plated toggle closure.
Black onyx is the anniversary gemstone for the 7th year of marriage. It is the birthstone for the Leo Zodiac sign.
Onyx is a variety of silicate mineral chalcedony. It is in the group of quartz. It chemical composition is silicon dioxide with carbon and iron with a hardness of 6.6 to 7.
It is found in Canada, Mexico, Russia, India and Brazil.
Black onyx is sought after for its metaphysical properties.
Its name originated from the Greek word onux which means fingernail or claw. It has been used throughout history in ornaments, jewelry and carvings especially in cameos by the ancient Greeks and Romans.
Lampwork
Lampwork is created by a lamp or torch used to melt many types of glass. Lampwork is an ancient craft and dates back to the 5th century BC. Lampwork was used extensively in Murano Italy since the 14th Century. In  times gone by it  was blown and shaped in its molten state. In modern times  a torch is used.
